Legend of Villa Kollár
In the heart of Dolný Smokovec, where the mountain rays touch the shingle roofs, stands the enchanting Villa Kollár. Long ago it was built by mountain folk who believed that the house would watch over everyone who set out into the mountains from there.
It is said that a smiling guardian spirit lives in Villa Kollár – an old poet who once loved the Tatras. To every hiker who begins their journey here, he lends an “invisible verse” – a magical rhyming thought that helps them conquer even the steepest trail.
Little Emilia (the heroine of the stories) heard that whoever sets out on a hike from Villa Kollár will find more than just a beautiful view at the end of the path – they will also find the answer to the question they carry in their heart.
And so Villa Kollár became an enchanted gateway to the fairytale world of the Tatras, where every step turns into an adventure.

Villa Kollár was built in 1889 by the renowned Tatra architect Gedeon Majunke. This architect left a significant mark on the history of the Tatras with numerous buildings that still bear an unmistakable Tatra character. Villa Kollár ranks among his most precious works and is a national cultural monument.
The building underwent a complete and sensitive renovation in 2020, during which its historical charm was preserved while being adapted to modern comfort standards. Today it offers visitors a combination of tradition and convenience – the original atmosphere of the late 19th century meets the amenities of the 21st century.
The villa is located directly in nature, in a quiet area of Dolný Smokovec, just a few dozen meters from the Tatra Electric Railway (TEŽ) stop. Thanks to this, it is an ideal base for hiking, cycling routes, and winter sports.
